Who is the Greene County Health & Wellness Foundation? The Greene County Health & Wellness Foundation is a registered non-profit 501(c)3 organization formed as the result of the sale of Greene County Memorial Hospital to Essent Healthcare in October, 2005. Its mission is to provide the community compassionate and caring outreach programs with an emphasis toward healthcare.

Is the Greene County Health & Wellness Foundation associated with Washington Health System Greene in Waynesburg?
No. The former Greene County Memorial Hospital no longer exists as a corporate entity. Washington Health System Greene has taken over the hospital’s operations and is a for-profit organization and in no way is affiliated with GCMHF.

What does the foundation do with its assets?
The foundation provides grants to non-profit organizations providing services that support our mission and goals. A list of approved grants can be found under the Grants List tab.

How does the foundation determine who is awarded a grant?
The foundation makes every attempt to fund those programs that best use their resources and services to help people improve their health and well-being. A complete list of areas that we fund (along with things we cannot fund) can be found under the Grants & Giving tab.

Who makes the final decision when a grant is to be awarded?
The foundation is comprised of volunteer board members that all live or work in Greene County and who are passionate about our cause and the people we serve. The members serve a three-year term and can hold the office of President, Vice President or Treasurer. A complete list of board members can be found under the About GCMHF tab.

Does the foundation have any employees?
Yes. David Jones is the Executive Director and attends all board meetings but does not have voting privileges.

What is the first step I should take if I would like my organization to apply for a grant?
Contact can be initiated via telephone or email using the contact information found on the home page. A grant application can also be found under Grants and Giving tab.

Can I make a donation to GCHWF?
Absolutely. We can accept gifts from organizations or individuals who share our goal of improving the health and well-being of the people of Greene County. A form to contribute to GCHWF can be found under Grants & Giving tab.

Can I dictate what my donation is to be used on?
Yes. If you have a specific area of interest that you would like your gift to fund, the foundation would fully support it and even provide you with documentation should you desire it.

Why should I contribute to the foundation instead of directly to my charity?
When you contribute to GCHWF, your money can be pooled and take advantage of higher interest rates and lower expense fees, thereby creating more of an opportunity to support your cause.

To whom are GCHWF and its governing body accountable to?
As a registered non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, full and complete disclosure of all financial operations must be made to the Internal Revenue Service on an annual basis.
